The first Foundation for Shamanic Studies workshop is the Basic Workshop in Core Shamanism, “Michael Harner’s The Way of the Shaman,® Shamanic Journeying, Power and Healing.”  This is a prerequisite for taking all the Foundation’s other, more advanced, trainings, including Shamanic Extraction Healing Training, Shamanism, Dying and Beyond, Shamanic Divination Training, Shamanism and the Spirits of Nature, Shamanic Dreamwork™,  Shamanic Training in Creativity™,  Power Soul Retrieval™,  and Shamanism Practicum™.  Along with the Basic workshop, the Shamanic Extraction Healing Training and Shamanism, Dying and Beyond workshops are prerequisites for taking the Power Soul Retrieval workshop.

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies also offers more intensive residential programs annually in the US on the East and West Coasts including the Two-Week Shamanic Healing Intensive™ and the Three-Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing™,  as well as a five-day training program in Shamanic Counseling.


Continuing Education Units: The Foundation for Shamanic Studies (FSS) now offers CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE) CREDITS/UNITS for workshops and training programs. For details go to: https://www.shamanism.org/workshops/ContinuingEdCEU.html.

Age Requirements: It is a Foundation for Shamanic Studies policy that workshop participants be 18 years of age or older. An exception can be made for 16- and 17-year-olds when a parent or legal guardian is also in attendance at that workshop.

Fee discounts: The Foundation offers a 10% fee discount for Foundation for Shamanic Studies Council and Circle members. Provide proof of membership to the workshop sponsor at the time of payment, or if you paying online, you must pay full price, but can request a refund from the sponsor when you arrive at the workshop.

Early Registration discounts: You may pay a discounted price if you register a month or more prior to the date the workshop begins. After that date the full price is required.

Refunds: The price you paid can be refunded minus a $30 administrative fee if you request this more than 2 weeks prior to the date the workshop begins.

Non-residential Workshops:  Unless otherwise indicated, the weekend workshops are not residential. You are responsible for your own travel and lodging. Please note our refund and cancellation policies if you are booking airlines and hotels. Travel insurance may be advised.

Meals and Directions: Meals will be on your own (available at local restaurants). Directions and a what-to-bring packet will be mailed or emailed to you upon receipt of your tuition payment and registration.


*Ellen Winner practices shamanism in Boulder, Colorado, and serves as guest faculty for the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Extensively trained in Core Shamanism by the Foundation, she has also studied in Nepal with indigenous Himalayan shamans. CSC-Certified Shamanic Counselor (Harner Method). Shamanic Counseling is one-on-one teaching of the classic shamanic journey.
